International Litigation and ADR
The International Litigation Group is a group of lawyers who specialise in commercial dispute resolution where there is a cross-border element. We aim to improve our members' knowledge of how best to deal with cross-border cases to obtain the best result for the client.
The group looks after the needs of its clients by raising the awareness of Eurojuris in general, and the group members in particular, as competent professions who are used to working with one another in obtaining quick and cost effective solutions to cross-border disputes.
The group trains its members at practice group meetings and the training takes the form of presentations by group members on relevant issues and procedures both in their jurisdictions and in the area of international and EU conventions and regulations which affect all members. The group publishes material on its website, on the Eurojuris website and in various publications to which group members have contributed. Members of the group take part in seminars, often with other organisations such as the Federation of Consulting Engineers in Germany and the Bar Council in Paris.
Future projects of the group include publishing more material on basic civil procedures in our various jurisdictions. This is not a substitute for text books but is a short survival guide for each jurisdiction so that members will be better prepared to give instructions to their colleagues overseas and to work with them more effectively on cases. The group will continue its programme of meetings and training and will hold seminars in future on subjects of interest.
WORKING DOCUMENTS
Members of the group recently took park in a mock mediation. The case study for the mediation was kindly prepared by Catherine Cotsaki our member in Athens, and members of the group played the roles of the different parties to the dispute and their legal advisers. Catherine is an accredited mediator in Greece and we made a film of the mediation which will be presented to the Centre for Mediation Studies in Athens
