Simply Getting There: a guide to Dutch transport law
Simply Getting There: a guide to Dutch transport law
The
Netherlands are the gateway to
Europe. Especially from main port
Rotterdam goods are distributed all over
Europe. For this reason many German companies enter into contracts with Dutch transport companies. This poses a great challenge, since Dutch concepts of law and thus actual rules of law are significantly different from those in
Germany.
“Time and again we find that German companies assume that the legal systems in
Germany and the
Netherlands barely differ. They are taken by surprise when problems arise even so.”, says attorney-at-law Bram Marcus (author) of the law firm Van Dam & Kruidenier Advocaten. This over one hundred years old law firm has specialized in handling transport law cases and corresponds with its clients in German, English and French.
Attorney-at-law John Wolfs (author) says: “By being optimally prepared, companies can prevent financial damage. To create a feeling for the typical problems connected to Dutch transport law, the guide addresses both some fundamental aspects of law, as well as concrete issues such as the arrest of assets.” John Wolfs is founder of Wolfs Advocaten in
Maastricht which operates internationally and is able to communicate with its clients in German, English and French. The firm has specialized in handling international cases for companies in the fields of logistics, industry and trade, as well as insurance.
The firms of both authors are member of the international network of lawyers Eurojuris
Netherlands (http://www.eurojuris.nl/), the Dutch sister association of Eurojuris Deutschland e.V.
Eurojuris Deutschland e.V. is one of the largest networks of lawyers in
Europe. Over 5.500 Eurojuris lawyers cover 630 different cities in over 40 countries worldwide.
