Oliver advises clients on a wide range of commercial property matters, bringing his particular expertise in planning law to bear and finding practical solutions to what can appear intractable problems.

Oliver practised exclusively as a planning lawyer both in the commercial sector and in-house, before broadening his expertise to commercial property on his return to private practice in 2015. He helps clients implement strategic planning solutions that protect and enhance land and property assets, also providing support to local authority in-house planning teams as well as to other public sector bodies. His approach is based on a clear-eyed and objective appraisal of his clients’ legal position to enable them to achieve successful planning outcomes.

Planning expertise

• Negotiating a wide range of section 106 agreements for landowners and developers across residential and commercial developments.
• Obtaining a CLEUD for a European motocross champion for the continued use of a motorbike track at his home in East Sussex; also removing conditions.
• Advising on enforcement by LPAs including obtaining withdrawal of a Breach of Condition Notice.
• Planning law support to the firm’s property, corporate and private clients.

Commercial property expertise

• Negotiating agreements for lease and leases for a major insurance client of the firm across multiple sites nationally.
• Negotiating a contract for the £5m sale of land with deferred consideration and overage.
• Acting for an SME developer in acquisition and refinancing of development sites.
• Advising on multiple leases of B8 warehousing for a drinks distributor client; and on its agreement for lease and lease of its first retail venture in Hackney, East London.
• Acting on the purchase with overage of a school building for redevelopment, and the lease back of that building to an education provider.
